Hempfest is the world’s largest annual cannabis policy reform and free speech event. It is a one and a half-mile long cannabis rally with around 118 crews staffed with one thousand volunteers. The history of Hempfest dates back to 1991 when a group of friends (who called themselves the Seattle Peace Heathens Community Action Group) invited people to have a discussion about cannabis and its legalization.
In its first year, 500 people attended the festival, and it gradually gained popularity and transformed it into a three-day annual cannabis rally. Named initially as Washington Hemp Expo, it took the present name (Hempfest) the following year, i.e., 1992.
